Katie York was always a vivid dreamer until the day her ability to fall asleep disappeared. After a week of inescapable insomnia, Katie finally finds rest only to wake up to discover a mysterious artifact looming over her beside.
This box by her bed is as black as the end of all things. The artifact radiates a paranormal energy that cannot be of this world. Katie does not understand its power, but she knows that it has the ability to bridge her reality with the world of dreams.
The next time Katie falls asleep though, she is greeted by a dark figure, Morpheus, the God of dreaming. Morpheus is a member of the Oneiroi, the brotherhood of gods who craft the dreams of mankind. Morpheus has fallen in love with Katie, this mortal whose mind is the canvas where the god has crafted his greatest creations.
Katie though becomes torn between two men and two realities as she begins to fall in love with her peculiar best friend, Walter Blackwell.
The resulting love triangle begins to open a rift between reality and the dream-realm that threatens to unravel the entire universe. Katie must make a choice between Morpheus and Walter, and either way, her world will never be the same.

I feel like there was next to no character development in this novel. Katie has a week of not being able to sleep at all at the opening of the novel, but the reason isn't given--a fact that disturbs me as a medical professional. She meets Morpheus, then decides she loves her best friend, but they are all flat and boring. Even during the supposed climax of the novel (which again didn't make much sense), I found it hard to care what was happening to Katie. I realize there requires some suspension of disbelief in novels, but the world creating in this book just didn't permit me to do that. The setting is never really described, there's a lot of telling and no showing, and some characters don't seem to serve any particular purpose.Save your money and/or time and go for a different novel.

Every turn of A page held me in suspense I could not put the book down
I wanted to know what was in that black box !
